I'm a divorced mom of three (mostly) grown sons. I'm also a cat lover and companion to three strays and one extremely ancient Siamese.
We've bought a very old house and I seem to have developed the craziest idea that I can restore it myself. Perhaps it is all part of becoming middle-aged crazy as I've also begun to think I can be hardcore domestic by taking up sewing, baking and all kinds of crafty things.
I quit smoking on January 1, 2008 after having the habit for nearly 25 years. I'm quite proud of that - even if I've still got about ten pounds to take off because of it! It's funny though - all the times I thought I wanted to quit and couldn't manage it and this time I did it rather easily by comparison as protest to our state who, in its infinite wisdom, decided that tobacco taxes should cause a pack to exceed $5 - and after paying such a premium, smokers should not actually be allowed to smoke the cigarettes pretty much anywhere other than in their own homes. I won't be surprised if they soon ban people from smoking in their own yards or in their homes with the windows open. So, Iowa - you aren't getting my $1400 in tobacco taxes this year. I'm going to use it to go on vacation. Out of state. To Kentucky. So there. *sticks tongue out at you* I hope I live to be 100 now - at least long enough to be a burden to the state I paid a boatload of tobacco tax to before now.
I wasn't kidding about Kentucky - or Tennessee actually. Doesn't matter, it's not for the tobacco - my brother is stationed at Ft. Campbell and I'll be visiting. After he gets back from Iraq. *fingers crossed*
I'm politically left of center but not necessarily a true liberal. I'm not at all religious (total atheist) but I find most religions absolutely fascinating.
I'm rather involved in the Harry Potter fandom, but have decided to use this journal for my real life - or what there is of it anyway.
So that's it in a nutshell. Boring as hell.
